Ar. Madhu Sarin

Member

Madhu Sarin is an Architect, social activist and urban theorist. Having grown up in the city, Madhu Sarin conducted research on Chandigarh’s planning to analyze why a planned new city continues to be a riddle with “non- plan” developments of squatter settlements and petty trading and services. She has written extensively on urban rural environment with papers published in books and journals. The city administration, in 1998 honoured Sarin for her work in urban planning and environment.

She has also served on several committees appointed by the government of India and task forces of the Planning Commission.

Ar. Madhu Sarin

Pallav Mukherjee is one of the senior private architects in the city who made the city his home since 1967. Quick witted, affable and disarmingly candid, he has been an active proponent of the issues of sustainability of Chandigarh at diverse platforms. He has a striking memory for facts and figures, and has been a popular professor at the Chandigarh College of Architecture. He has undertaken wide ranging assignments for the betterment of the city, from serving as the member of the Governor’s Advisory Council for the city of Chandigarh for a period of 5 to 8 years to being the nominated councillor of the Municipal council of Chandigarh.

Dr.Prabhjot Kaur

A multifaceted personality, full of enthusiasm and optimism, she has always enjoyed easy camaraderie and unquestioned respect with colleagues and students alike. Her drive to make a positive impact in field of education compelled her to quit a thriving practice in 1987 and pursue academics .After successful stints at CCA, Chandigarh and Giani Zail Singh College of Engg. & Tech, Bathinda, she has been at the helm of affairs at IKG PTU since 2012.
Having spent three decades in the middle of students ,she has seen that creative expression and freedom needs to be augmented in the youth .She has taken up the challenge to establish a connect between the youth and the city by channelizing their energies towards creative expression and problem solving .

Ar.Vikram Prakash

Member

Dr. Vikram Prakash is an architect, an architectural historian and theorist. He is the professor of urban design and planning at the University of Washington. He is the founder Director of Chandigarh Urban Labs, an investigation into issues of globalization, urbanization and preservation that are at play in Chandigarh today. He organizes collaborative studios, symposia, exhibits for interdisciplinary research Laboratory to study contemporary urbanization. He has several publications to his credit.

A 1997 graduate of Chandigarh College of Architecture, Ar. Shilpa Das, set up private practice in the city in the year 2006.In a quest for better living spaces while working on private projects, she realized that the intermediary spaces we transverse during the course of a day impact, even define the quality of our life significantly. Also that current urban culture of disconnect within citizens and with the city spaces, made for a less conducive living environment.

Taking up the challenge to contribute her bit towards filling this void, she has been instrumental in creating a forum of likeminded professionals and citizens.

Ar. Rohit Jigyasu, the UNESCO Chair professor at the Institute of Disaster Mitigation for Urban Cultural Heritage at Ritsumeikan University, Tokyo. He is also the president of ICOMOS international scientific committee on risk preparedness (ICORP) and a senior advisor at the Indian Institute of Human Settlements based in Bangalore. He has served as a consultant to UNESCO, UNDP, and UNISDR, and has several publications to his credit.

Savneet Kaur has multiple achievements to her credit .Her practice IMARAT has focused substantial effort towards reviving the vernacular traditions of construction ,building in Adobe, research in eco - vernacular architecture and development of building models that combine traditional wisdom and modern conveniences.

S.D.Sharma, principal architect at SD Sharma and Associates founded in 1980 has been associated with ‘Chandigarh Project’ since the inception of the city in 1952 and has become an integral part of its journey so far. He has designed many significant buildings in the city. He was Chief Architect, Government of India (I.S.R.O.), from 1972 to 1979. Besides other National awards, Ar.S.D Sharma was awarded the Highest Honor of lifetime contribution in the field of Architecture ‘IIA Baburao Mhatre Gold Medal 2001’..

He is a guiding light, a source of inspiration and support an urban interface crucial to the future of the Chandigarh city..
